Keith Nylez’s ‘Top Bound’ is something that you can’t help but bob your head to when the beat hits. The beat slowly builds until it is knocking louder and louder, giving a really nostalgic hip-hop vibe. The 808s hit hard, giving a classic boom clap that’s no stranger in the rap game. I really give it up to Donproductions for this production, it really had me lit.
As far as Nyle’s lyrics, he speaks about being resilient, words that we all can relate to especially as artists. What makes Nylez’s words a little bit unique is how he talks about elevating his mind, turning it into a muscle.
The story he tells is one of being in a position of hopelessness, being dealt a hand that he didn’t ask for, especially living on Chicago’s south side. We see the negatives of it all, more people who are on the outside looking in, offer their two cents on the situation that many people are actually living.
“Top Bound” offers ideas that can be seen as inspiring, giving hope to the “lost lives” on the south side. I find it to be a breath of fresh air, “They count me out, that’s when I turn it up a notch,” a line from the hook of ‘Top Notch’ that reminds us to never let what others say get the better of us. In fact we should turn it into something that motivates us to go harder.
Keith Nylez “Top Bound” can be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music. Make sure to listen to it now. Chicago’s hip-hop scene is not to be overlooked, you never know, Keith Nylez could be the next one to pop. Don’t Sleep!
