This year me and Mr. Pryor had the pleasure of visiting New York City. Thanks to my mother who bought us the trip as a graduation present for me. (Thanks Mom!) This was an amazing feat for me because New York has always been a dream of mine. To visit. To live. To excel.
I have always wondered how great it would be to be a part of such a vibrant culture. From the history of Harlem, the liveliness of Manhattan, and the endless opportunities the city offers.
We got to walk through Times Square and see how even at midnight the city looks as if it's midday, full of various faces walking through the downtown area. We also got to experience the dirtiness of it all. We visited a Chase Bank and there was so much trash on the ground, you would've thought that it was a corner store.
We walked the Brooklyn Bridge, which I'm sure would be on my bucket list, had I ever started one. We also got to visit the 9/11 Memorial and sit in the silence to remember the victims of the tragic incident.
We also tasted famous New York Pizza, which could never compete with Chicago deep dish. And enjoyed the Museum of Illusion, The Wax Museum, and Ripley's Believe it or Not.
Using the New York subway was definitely an experience. Their system is so much more complicated than Chicago's. While we use a simple color-way system to get around, New York's subway uses numbers and letters. To make it even more confusing their platforms have two trains that go the same way! (If you're from Chicago, you know how confusing this is).
I enjoyed this experience for the fact that I've always wanted to be a part of the New York life. I still don't feel like I got a real glimpse of what it would be like to live as a New Yorker of course, but it was cool to be there for a few days.
I think that I realized that I couldn't live there with just a regular job. Maybe everyone knows this. I know that the city is full of so much opportunity. My former coworker got work as a PA for popular shows when he decided to move there. This is the media capital of the world. So many people go here for events and to network.
I would love my time to shine in this concrete jungle, and hopefully my time will come. But only for a limited time. Maybe soon I will be able to live there for assignment.
During the little of amount of traveling I've been able to partake in for the past 3 years, I think that I've come to realize that I want to live in a tropical climate, at-least right now. Being in the midwest for all of my life makes me want to experience living somewhere like Cali or Florida.
I thank God for the opportunity to be able to visit the place of my dreams. I hope to go back sooner than later, and explore much, much more.
