So, we all know the term Ladies Man right? But what I’ve learned since yesterday is that people have different meanings for this term. What I thought it to mean was a guy who women have a certain liking for, whether it be because of his charm, his looks, or his swag. But others say that it actually means man whore, (or a player) a guy that sleeps with all the women that he can get.
What brought up this topic was last night when out of nowhere I just thought of the term, Gentlemen’s Woman.
Being the Black Feminist that I am, I was thinking how kind of sexist the term Ladies Man is, so I thought of a female alternative. So of course I asked Mr. Pryor what he thought of the term (while I was cracking up because I thought it was so hilarious for some reason) and he said “What you mean? Like a hoe?” I instantly said NO!
It was interesting to me that this term got so many mixed opinions, some people thinking nothing was wrong with it like my auntie and my friend. While my mother in law instantly thought of thot when I brought it up to her, and my cousin said that I was no longer related to her after I said I would get it printed on a shirt. Others needed to be told what it actually meant because they were just outright confused.
As the creator of the ‘Gentlemen’s Woman’ term, the definition is a woman that is liked by lots of men because of her looks, swag, or whatever it may be. (Note that just because she is looked on fondly by men doesn’t mean that she sleeps with them or even gives them the time of day.)
I think the term to be highly progressive, I see a new wave coming to life. If parents would buy their infant son a shirt that says “Ladies Man” then why wouldn't it be just as normal to buy you baby girl a shirt that says “Gentlemen’s Woman”?
Of course people would probably do a double take at the clothing, but people’s minds need to change with the times. What do you think of the term? Would you wear it on a shirt? Why? Why not?
